James Gallogly, a former oil executive and University of Oklahoma law alumnus, was appointed the 14th president of the university and will replace David Boren after his retirement from the position, effective June 30.
The Board of Regents made the official appointment at 8 a.m. on March 26. Two hours later, Gallogly addressed the crowd that had gathered in the Molly Shi Boren Ballroom of the Oklahoma Memorial Union for the official announcement ceremony, citing his memories of the university.
“I just love this place. It's just a big part of my life,” Gallogly said. “It’s a part of my family’s life, and it’s built a foundation for everything I did.”
Gallogly said his accomplishments in the business world have prepared him to successfully lead the university through the period of transition.
